Honored Amidst Advertising Giants at the 2007 OBIE Awards
GoMobile Advertising, after only a year and a half in business, was honored this week amidst advertising giants at the 2007 OBIE awards sponsored by the Outdoor Advertising Association of America. GoMobile was one of six finalists selected in the Special F/X category out of 1200 nominations. Kent-based GoMobile was nominated for their campaign with IKEA in 2006. GoMobile won a Merit Award competing against campaigns for McDonalds, Sony PSP, Jeep Wrangler, All State, Air New Zealand and the San Francisco Zoo.
GoMobile, the David in a land of Goliaths, was competing with global agencies BBDO New York, Leo Burnett USA and three-time agency of the year award winner TBWA/Chiat/Day. A Merit Award Winner at the 2007 OBIE’s, GoMobile President Chris Schuler was thrilled to win one of the advertising industry’s oldest and most prestigious awards. “It was an honor and a victory for us as a company and the mobile advertising industry,” Said Schuler. “We were the only mobile outdoor advertising company nominated.”
Pushing resources to the limit, 4 guys in a garage transformed a humble mobile advertising vehicle into a living art display that took the mobile advertising industry to new heights and delivered a new opportunity for advertising in the Northwest. Conceived in May 2006, the IKEA mobile living room concept was taken to the streets for the 2007 catalog drop. “We are very pleased with the response that IKEA has received to our GoMobile promotion for IKEA Catalog 2007,” said Carol Merry, Advertising Manager for IKEA. “This has been one of our most successful catalog promotions and GoMobile has been a big contributor to that success. The fact that we were Merit Award winners in our category is a win in itself.”
ABOUT THE OBIE AWARDThe OBIE Award is the oldest-and certainly among the most sought after-honors for creative excellence in the world of advertising. The award itself is modeled after the obelisks of ancient Egypt, tall stone structures that were used to publicize laws and treaties. The obelisk is often considered the first true form of outdoor advertising. The OBIE Award is outdoor advertising’s greatest honor and rightly so. It recognizes excellence in the medium some call the most difficult to create for. The OBIE is great outdoor, the benchmark by which all creative is measured, the visual guideline to emulate.
